Salvin's Mollymawk

Conservation status
In some trouble

Known for their poise, Salvin's mollymawk has a dignified look. These are the smallest of seven albatrosses, or mollymawks, that breed in New Zealand. Most commonly, they are seen off the Kaikōura peninsula, scavenging large chunks of squid. As they spend a lot of time trailing behind fishing boats, they get caught in commercial longlines and nets.
