Conservation status
In some trouble

Tiritiri Matangi has been a popular source of tīeke for translocation. This island initially had very little bush, so there were very few natural roosting and nesting sites. Since then, boxes have been provided for nesting. The saddleback is not a species to look a gift horse/house in the mouth.

HALO Whakatāne is a community-led conservation project in the Eastern Bay of Plenty aiming to create a habitat where tīeke can live and thrive in the heart of Whakatāne.

We aim to facilitate relationships amongst volunteers, to advocate for our environment, educate our tamariki, and strengthen the local pest control operations.
